BRAKE CONTROL: Holding Brake Release / Close Timing Problem

A hoist, lift, crane or vertical axis does not release or hold correctly, or the drive/brake sequence causes movement, trip or mechanical shock.

Scope of this technical record

Brake-control release and close timing issues on Siemens MASTERDRIVES hoist, crane, lift and vertical-axis applications.

Safety boundary

Brake-control work can create uncontrolled movement. Mechanical securing and approved site test procedure are required before any adjustment or powered test.

Why brake control needs its own page

The holding brake is not just another output relay. Drive timing, threshold, coil supply and mechanical brake condition combine to decide whether the load holds, releases smoothly or shocks the machine.

Practical routing

Record timing parameters and brake arrangement before changing anything. Then check output command, coil supply and mechanical brake condition. Parameter tuning cannot repair a worn or sticking brake.
