Scope of this technical record

Evidence workflow for official BUS Overvoltage and Bus Undervoltage conditions on Baldor Series 15H drives.

Safety boundary

DC-link energy can remain lethal after power isolation. Internal bus investigation is restricted to qualified technicians using rated instrumentation and verified discharge practices.

Separate the two bus conditions

BUS Overvoltage and Bus Undervoltage describe opposite protected conditions, but they share one diagnostic requirement: capture exactly when the event occurs. An overvoltage during rapid deceleration strongly suggests that regenerative energy and braking arrangement must be evaluated; undervoltage on power-up or acceleration begins with supply and conversion evidence. Treating both as a generic 'bad board' event wastes the strongest clue.

The official manual makes the fault vocabulary reliable. The database adds timing, application and repair-decision structure so the user can gather evidence before a service request or replacement purchase.

Application and supply evidence

Before opening a drive, document input voltage class and supply context, machinery type, motor/load state, acceleration or deceleration command, and whether braking equipment is present. A high-inertia application may require a different technical solution than a dead unit tripping before it ever commands output.

Where plant transients, shared equipment or an unexpected application change is suspected, those details should be included in the service package. A technician should not expend board-level repair effort while the surrounding installation remains an unexamined source of repeated bus events.

Role of board-level content

The currently reviewed BALDOR 15H drawing maps auxiliary supplies rather than a complete main-bus and braking assembly. It may explain related control-power symptoms, but it cannot by itself validate a failed DC-bus component. This page therefore links to the power-supply route only when the field case presents corresponding supply evidence.

Future records can be stronger if exact bus, brake or power-stage drawings are identified for a known model or frame. Until then, the honest and useful service is to route bus faults to the evidence that a qualified repair provider actually needs.

Repair, replacement or modernization

For an aging drive, the final decision may not always be board repair. If the unit is obsolete and the application can accept a controlled replacement, modernization may compete with repair. Conversely, a configured installed asset with a well-defined repairable fault may justify specialist service. The evidence gathered in this workflow supports either decision.

IndustrialDriveData should not pretend that every page ends in a repair instruction. The commercial value lies in reducing uncertainty around a stopped asset and directing a high-intent user toward the correct technical next step.
